Propecia
More than 35 million American men are affected by the condition known as androgenic alopecia, more commonly referred to as male-pattern hair loss. Propecia (finasteride) is currently the only FDA-approved oral tablet for the treatment of male-pattern hair loss.
In clinical trials, 66 percent of men taking Propecia experienced some degree of regrowth and 90% had no additional hair loss over 5 years of therapy. Those men who did not take Propecia continued to lose hair. Taken once a day, Propecia is very convenient to use. Propecia is also extremely well tolerated. In clinical trials, less than two percent of the patients taking Propecia experienced an adverse event. Propecia is only available by prescription and is not for use by women.
