Laser Therapies

As we age, the skin suffers damage from the sun and other environmental factors and develops various age-related imperfections. Using cutting-edge laser treatments at our dermatology offices in San Diego and Riverside Counties, we can target the damaged areas and improve the appearance of irregularities such as:

  • Sun/age spots
  • Vascular lesions
  • Rosacea
  • Facial veins

At Dermatology Specialists, we use cutting-edge laser treatments and photorejuvenation to treat these conditions and a variety of others, as well as for improving overall skin texture and appearance.

V beam® Pulsed Dye Laser Treatments

Our Candela V beam® pulsed dye laser effectively treats a variety of concerns, including redness of the face and neck, rosacea, sun and age spots, facial veins, freckles, scars and stretch marks. The pulsed dye laser delivers an intense burst of light to specific areas of the skin. This energy is absorbed by targeted blood vessels or pigmented areas, eliminating most vascular or pigmented lesions. Despite the powerful nature of this laser, the skin is kept protected and comfortable by a unique cooling system which delivers a cooling mist onto the skin during treatment and helps prevent redness and bruising afterward.

Photorejuvenation/Actinic Keratosis Treatments

At our offices in Southern California, photorejuvenation is enhanced with the use of a topical solution, Levulan, followed by a laser light device. Levulan (aminolevulinic acid), when applied to the skin for 30 to 90 minutes, makes the skin more sensitive to the laser light. This decreases the number of required treatments when treating acne and brown spots and also allows us to treat precancerous actinic keratosis. Benign brown and red blemishes, broken blood vessels, uneven skin tone, rough skin texture and other skin conditions caused by sun damage on the face, neck, chest, and back of the hands can be treated safely and effectively.

This special technique is called photodynamic therapy or PDT.

Recovery and Results

Laser and photorejuvenation treatments are typically performed in a series, and the number of treatments required will be determined at your consultation. It is very important to use sun block and to avoid sun exposure after this Southern California skin care treatment in order to protect and maintain your newly improved skin.

Some patients will experience temporary redness or irritation following their treatment, but cool compresses should ease discomfort. Laser and light therapies have been safely used for decades and side effects or complications are extremely rare. Your dermatologist will discuss these with you at the time of your consultation.
