Vein Treatments

Many people are bothered by unsightly veins on the face or legs, but in most cases, these are easily treated. Spider veins and broken capillaries are non-functioning veins that have accumulated blood, causing their dark, prominent appearance. Serving Riverside and San Diego Counties, we can perform vein treatments to safely and effectively eliminate these troublesome veins, giving you back the clear, healthy-looking skin you want.

Facial Veins

Not all the causes for facial veins are known, but they appear to be secondary to heredity, sun exposure or related to a condition known as adult acne rosacea. Small and medium-size veins are often treated with the Vbeam® or VariLite™ laser. The laser produces an intense light which is absorbed by the red color of the blood vessel. This intensely bright light destroys the vessel with minimal effect on the surrounding skin.

Discomfort associated with laser vein treatments at our Southern California offices is typically compared to the sensation of tiny pin pricks, and can be reduced to a relatively comfortable level with topical anesthesia. After the treatment, pain is minimal or nonexistent. Immediately following the laser treatment, the area will be somewhat red. Over the next few days, tiny blisters may develop which then crust over and fall off in 7 to 10 days.

Typically, a series of treatments is required to correct the appearance of red facial veins. Each patient is different, so the number of treatments necessary will vary. Treatments are typically spaced at six week intervals and continued until the veins are sufficiently reduced or eliminated.

Leg Veins

At Dermatology Specialists, Inc., we treat unsightly leg veins at our San Diego and Riverside County offices using sclerotherapy. This relatively straightforward procedure involves injecting a sclerosing solution into each of the dysfunctional veins, causing them to dissolve and disappear over time.

Each treatment involves several injections, and most patients will need a series of treatments, spaced over several weeks, in order to achieve the desired result. The treated area may appear bruised for a time following treatment, and you will be given specific instructions for your post-procedure care.
